Camping, hiking, and traveling were not unknown to our early American ancestors. Sheltering themselves from the wind, rain, and dew were dilemmas that were equally known to them. In this episode I look at some options used by some early travelers and long hunters. This is by no means exhaustive nor is it meant to be. I wanted to dive into what they used in the days before REI and Wal Mart tents. What I found were attitudes towards weather mixed with solutions that were anything but ready made and standard. There is room for more on this topic eventually. I encourage everyone who wants to dig deeper to go out and try some of these. They are a lot different than the standard A frames and diamond fly. Those have their place but I wanted something different. 00:00 Intro 00:28: Differences in attitudes towards weather 02:54: No Shelter 03:31: Natural Shelters 04:23: Tents and Tarps 05:40: Bartram's Shelter (from description) 06:25: Hide Shelters 07:31: Buffalo Hide shelter from description 08:49: Abandoned and Occupied homes along the frontier 09:57: How I approach historic shelters today 11:42: Outro Many thanks to D.
