ViolentBeetle's Pale Horse community project on Doomworld: https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic... Having played a smattering of this wad so far, I knew it would be quality. ViolentBeetle hardly disappoints, being able to effortlessly gather mappers together to create some unique (and very grey) levels for Doom II. This is Pale Horse! 0:06 MAP01: "Pipe Dream" by ViolentBeetle Right off the bat, the midi kicks your ass in gear, giving off a vibe similar to the song "Going Down the Fast Way" from Rise of the Triad. A lot of incidental combat with mid-tier enemies in this one, with some lost souls thrown at you for good measure. A pretty fun start to the wad! Short too. 2:50 MAP02: "Computer Station" by Async Unicorn Computer Station is an appropriate length and difficulty for level 2. It's also darker and moodier in contrast to the last map. One big battle by the blue key and a bigger battle at the end, and you're finished. The only problem is that on each of my playthroughs I got a bug that completely destroyed map collision. I couldn't shoot anything or press any switches! I had to kill all the monsters using the TNTEM cheat and then hit DSDA's rewind feature to be able to exit. It's a shame because that last fight is a ton of fun, and the first real difficulty spike in the wad. Hope that glitch can be sorted out, unless the problem is the DSDA-Doom version I'm using (0.27.5). 12:12 MAP03: "Silberstahl" by Matt Eldrydge This one is a little more my speed. A large, winding, almost relaxing frolic through a monumental techbase. What. A. Vibe. And the midi happens to be a favorite of mine, "Emulations" by Psyrus. I used it in Embryo MAP01. Folks who prefer easier navigation may struggle, but I think sticking with this map is well worth it. There are some fun combat pieces, especially near the end, and the environment is pretty detailed and immersive while still feeling like Classic Doom. 31:01 Missed secrets Reviews coming soon. #doom #retrogaming #retro #game #games #gaming #gameplay #nocommentary #videogame #mods #mod #doomwad #wad #fanmade #fps #boomershooter #retrofps
