Do you ever experience pain while traveling? I know long rides in the car can cause me some lower back issues, or even worse riding in a plane. You’re sitting down, you are in hip flexion, this position here. You start getting low back pain, maybe some pelvic issues. So, what we need to do is get into hip extension. Now, if you’re on the road, you can get the leg behind the spine and do some hydrants. But what if you’re on a plane? Yeah, you need to be a little bit more surreptitious. I’m going to show you a move called the heel squeeze. And I’m going to tell you a quick story. Friend of mine that I used to work with years ago, she was a bookkeeper. At the end of every month, she was at her desk 12 to 13 hours a day closing the books for the month. She had a long ride home. And she said that every time by the time she got home, her back was killing her. So it was the day before Halloween, end of the month, doing the books. And I told her that every time she get up to make a copy to do the heel squeeze. Basically what you’re doing is putting your feet together, putting your heels together, squeeze them together really hard, and you’ll feel your glutes contract. So basically, I’m just putting the heels together, squeezing them, and I feel the glutes going. Every time she got up to make a copy, which was quite often, standing at the copier machine, holding on, she did the heel squeeze. She called me up Halloween night and said, “I just got home. I have zero back pain.” Reason being we activated the glutes, the big muscles of the butt and in turn they started supporting supporting the lumbar spine, your last five lumbar vertebrae. So, how do you do it? On a plane and since it’s surreptitious and no one can see you doing it, I would doing it be doing it in line too, while you’re getting waiting to get on the plane. Then while you’re on the plane, stand up every once in a while, pretend you’re looking around and do the heel squeeze. I would do this as often as possible while you’re on the plane, as long as you’re not aggravating anyone. And then when you get off the plane, while you’re waiting for your luggage, just standing there, do it again. Feet together, squeeze the heels together, the glutes will activate. Check this out the next time you travel. It’s worked for me and it’s worked for quite a few other people. And let me know how it works for you. Always remember, age is not measured in years.
