Aging Whitetail Deer - How To Age a Deer Using Tooth Wear This is a seminar at our QDMA meeting in State College, PA. Tim Smail, a fellow forestry and wildlife habitat consultant shows us his method of aging whitetail deer using the "tooth wear and replacement" technique. Aging whitetail deer can be done by sending and incisor tooth to a lab to count cementum annuli through a microscope. However, this method of aging whitetail deer is nearly as accurate, is free and can be done quickly at your deer camp. One of the most important parts of your record - keeping to track your management success is aging whitetail deer. The age of the bucks and does harvested should follow a normal curve and the population should have representatives from age groups from 1.5 to 5.5 in bucks and older in does.
