In the Qur’an (Surah Al-A‘raf, verses 46–48), the term “Ashab al-A‘raf” (People of the Heights) is mentioned. Summary of the Verses: Between Paradise and Hell, there will be a high place called al-A‘raf. On this height, certain people will recognize both the inhabitants of Paradise and the people of Hell. They will greet the people of Paradise with peace, and when they see the people of Hell, they will seek refuge in Allah. Explanations by Scholars: 1. Believers with equal good and bad deeds Many scholars say these are believers whose good and bad deeds are balanced. Because of their sins, they cannot immediately enter Paradise, but since they had faith, they will not remain in Hell forever either. They will stay on the Heights until Allah decides their final fate. 2. Prophets, saints, or martyrs Some scholars (including a narration from Ibn ‘Abbas) say these are Prophets, saints, or martyrs who stand on the Heights to recognize the people of Paradise and Hell. 3. Angels or specially appointed servants of Allah Another view is that they are angels or certain chosen servants whom Allah has placed there for this task. Conclusion: The most common and strongest opinion is that: The People of al-A‘raf are believers whose good and bad deeds are equal. They will be held on the Heights temporarily until Allah admits them Here’s the translation in to Paradise by His mercy. Virtues of Ahl al-Bayt (the Family of the Prophet ﷺ) The virtues of the Ahl al-Bayt are repeatedly mentioned in the Qur’an and Hadith. Their status and honor are made a source of guidance and love for the Ummah. In the Qur’an 1. Verse of Purification (Ayah al-Tathir): “Indeed, Allah intends only to remove impurity from you, O People of the Household, and to purify you completely.” (Surah al-Ahzab 33:33) 2. Verse of Love (Ayah al-Mawaddah): “Say: I do not ask of you any reward except love for [my] near relatives.” (Surah al-Shura 42:23) In the Hadith 1. Hadith of the Cloak (Hadith al-Kisa): The Prophet ﷺ gathered Ali (RA), Fatimah (RA), Hasan (RA), and Husayn (RA) under a cloak and said: “O Allah, these are my household. Remove from them impurity and purify them completely.” (Sahih Muslim) 2. Hadith of Thaqalayn: The Prophet ﷺ said: “I am leaving among you two weighty things: the Book of Allah and my Ahl al-Bayt. If you hold firmly to both, you will never go astray.” (Jami‘ al-Tirmidhi, Musnad Ahmad) 3. Love for Ahl al-Bayt: The Prophet ﷺ said: “Hasan and Husayn are the leaders of the youth of Paradise.” (Tirmidhi) Summary Loving and respecting the Ahl al-Bayt is part of faith. Hatred towards them is a sign of hypocrisy. Both the Qur’an and Sunnah emphasize their virtues and the rights they hold over the Ummah.
