Qarni, University of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England Session Title: Making Multilingual Futures: Makerspaces as Catalysts for Linguistic Identity and Inclusion This presentation explores how craft, computation, and storytelling can help schools and libraries reclaim heritage languages as vital resources and identity anchors. Today’s maker technologies offer powerful opportunities to transform learning spaces. By engaging families and children in co-creating culturally sustaining, design-centred narratives, maker education challenges monolingual norms and strengthens family–school–community connections. Through the Maker{Home} and Traditional Tales, Untraditionally Told projects, I demonstrate how educators can use tools such as stop-motion animation and Octo Studio to tap into children’s digital funds of knowledge and families’ craft traditions, creating multilingual stories that honour cultural identity.
