Garuda known as king birds also happen to be the vehicle of Vishnu. Even though most of the yoga poses aims towards balance and tranquility, by the look of the asana it will be more visible. This asana would help in loosening up your joints. Stretching your muscles would help in making all the parts of your body more fit. Strengthens your calf muscles and ankles. Improves balance and sense of concentration. While doing the asana sense of balance would be achieved as you are standing on one foot. It would look similar to you being wrapped by yourself. As this is a standing pose many beginners do not happen to find the right balance, for this they can use the wall to support the back. This can be done with different variations and can be very challenging. You should consult your doctor before doing any of the yoga poses. Even though these are very beneficial it would depend upon your body whether you can manage these asanas. Procedure: Garudasana. Stand in a steady and comfortable Samastithi Asana. Perform the Garuda Asana by balancing on your left leg while bringing your right leg across and around the left so that both legs are intertwined. Now perform the Garuda Hastha Mudra by crossing your right hand over the left so as to intertwine both hands and twist them up to your face level. Garudasana provides a slow and sustained stretch to the muscles of the arms and legs that produces an excellent relaxation response that produces an excellent relaxation response in these tissues. When ready, slowly release the foot and hand positions and come back to Samastithi Asana for some deep breathing and relaxation. Repeat the practice by performing it on the opposite side in order to also attain the healthy musculoskeletal benefits on that side of your body too. Garudasana stretches the spinal column and helps alleviate musculoskeletal problems of the back and extremities. When ready, slowly release the foot and hand positions and come back to the Samastithi Asana for some deep breathing and relaxation.
