Venice, CA – Los Angeles Police officers and firefighters responded to a disturbance at the Marina Connection shopping center in Venice on Thursday, January 30, 2025. A man, believed to be homeless, was reportedly wielding a stick, yelling, and banging on windows. Upon arrival, officers attempted to de-escalate the situation but ultimately deployed a less-lethal 40mm launcher to subdue the individual. The device fires a hard foam or sponge projectile with an effective range of 99 feet. Following the incident, police placed the man on a psychiatric hold under California Welfare and Institutions Code 5150. Firefighter paramedics transported him to a local hospital for further evaluation. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the man’s condition or whether charges will be filed.
