The year 2026 marks 30 years since Amtrak debuted their GE P42DC Locomotives in passenger rail service back in 1996. These locomotives were the new face of Amtrak when they first debuted in service. The P42s also helped retire the last F40s that Amtrak was operating during the 1990s and early 2000s. After the last P42 was delivered, the last F40s could finally be retired from Amtrak service. But now things are starting to change as Amtrak is now purchasing SC-44 and ALC-42 Locomotives from Siemens to replace the P42s in passenger rail service. However, the SC-44s and ALC-42s are having a lot of teething troubles due to the cold and snowy weather conditions in both the Midwest and the Pacific Northwest as well as many computer and software glitches. As a result, Amtrak's older fleet of locomotives and passenger cars are really starting to show their age since they are not ready to be retired due to the many issues with the new locomotives and passenger cars. But no matter what, Amtrak's P42s will continue to operate in passenger rail service until their final days eventually come. For this video, I have made a compilation of every single P42 that I have filmed on video. The locomotives featured include AMTK 91, AMTK 86, AMTK 45, AMTK 42, AMTK 168, AMTK 145, AMTK 156, and AMTK 154.
