The year 2026 marks 50 years since the EMD F40PH debuted in passenger rail service for Amtrak in 1976. In the following years beginning in 1977 before lasting for several decades, other railroads besides Amtrak would also purchase F40PH Locomotives not only for passenger rail service, but also for commuter railroads. The F40PH was also well known for being the locomotive that saved passenger rail travel in the United States after the failure of the EMD E-units, EMD F-units, EMD SDP40Fs, and GE P30CHs. Since then, the F40PH has become a favorite amongst many railfans and is still one of the most popular diesel locomotives still operating to this day. Even though the F40 might have been retired from Amtrak service during the early 2000s, a good number of units are still operating to this day as cab control cars as well as operating on other railroads. There is also a good selection of F40s that have been donated to museums and still operate to this day either as a locomotive or a cab control car. The F40PH has served the United States for 50 years and is here to stay with Amtrak using their older F40s as cab control cars as well as giving their locomotives constant upgrades, rebuilds, and overhauls in order to continue the legacy of the locomotives. In addition, other passenger railroads as well as several commuter railroads also continue the legacy of the F40 with constant upgrades, rebuilds, and overhauls as well. For this video, I have decided to make a compilation of every single Amtrak F40PH that I have filmed after many of the units were converted into cab control cars. The former Amtrak F40PH Locomotives, which have since been converted into cab control cars, that I have featured in this video include AMTK 90208 (originally AMTK 208), AMTK 90215 (originally AMTK 215), AMTK 90225 (originally AMTK 225), and AMTK 90230 (originally AMTK 230). All of these shots were filmed between 2013 and 2026.
