When leaders say things are “breaking down,” it’s often not because people aren’t trying hard enough. It’s because the conditions have changed. Rules that once produced clarity stop holding. Actions that used to stabilize things begin to create side effects. Problems resurface — even after they’ve supposedly been “solved.” In the previous video, I explored why the instinct to clamp down under pressure feels so natural — and why it often works when cause-and-effect relationships are stable. This video marks a shift. When stability can’t be assumed, leadership begins to move from execution toward sense-making — from enforcing answers to helping people re-establish a shared way of understanding what’s happening now. This isn’t about abandoning discipline. It’s about recognizing that coherence can’t be commanded — it has to be rebuilt.
