A few years ago, I was in exactly the same position you are in right now. I was following generic intermediate strength training programs like Wendler 5/3/1, 5x5 and Texas Method. My program didn't include any targeted accessory work and as a result my bench press didn't really get any stronger! I’ve been experimenting with this bench press accessory lift over the past few months and I want to share it with you in this video This accessory helped me to get to a 160kg bench press and it’s helped lots of my clients to do the same After watching this video, you’ll be able to add it into your program and see instant bench press gains It isn’t particularly new or revolutionary, but I don’t see many people use it My coach added this variation into my program and I’ve seen some HUGE improvements in strength and technique It’s pretty easy to perform Basically, you take 4 seconds to lower the bar Pause for a 2 count Then press A few blocks ago, I worked up to a 140kg triple using this variation and it’s had loads of positive affects on my strength It’s probably one of my new favourite bench press variations I’ll be honest, I actually hate doing it, but the benefits are undeniable In this video, I'll tell you how to do it, the benefits and give you some tips on how to implement it into your training program! If you have any questions, leave them in the comment section of this video. Thank you so much for watching & I hope this video helped you. ____________________________________________ Timestamps: 00:00-00:48 - Introduction 00:48-1:20 - The 4-2-0 tempo bench press 1:20-2:30 - How to do it 2:30-6:27 - The benefits of tempo bench 6:27-8:23 - How to program the tempo bench 8:23-10:48 - Common tempo bench mistakes 10:48-11:28 - Outro ____________________________________________ Written & filmed by Ben Johnson About me: I’m a competitive powerlifter with a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Sport & Exercise Science.
