Welcome to Day 16 of Somatic Kickstart, my transformative 30-day series designed to enhance nervous system regulation and improve your overall well-being. SOMATIC EXERCISES 1) Tongue Awareness: Explore the texture and movement of your tongue against your teeth. This simple yet profound act engages your interoceptive awareness, pulling your focus from abstract thoughts to the concrete sensations within your body. By stimulating the vagus nerve, this exercise helps calm your nervous system, giving your brain a much-needed reset. 2) Humming: Humming is a vibration-based practice that stimulates the vagus nerve, which regulates the body’s stress response. This exercise helps deactivate the brain’s default mode network—the hub of mental chatter—and guides you back to a state of clarity and calm. 3) Shoulder Shrugs: Mental stress often settles in the shoulders and neck. Through intentional shoulder movements, you can release this tension, engage your proprioceptive system, and reorient your awareness from your thoughts to your body. 4) Infinity Sign: Drawing an infinity sign with your hands while following the motion with your eyes engages both hemispheres of the brain, promoting balance and reducing mental rigidity. This bilateral integration helps you move past stuck thought patterns and into a state of flow. 5) Limbic Hold:By placing warm, gentle hands on the sides of your head, you activate the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing emotional reactivity and quieting mental chatter. This technique directly soothes the brain regions responsible for processing emotions and memories. 6) Shaking: Shaking mimics a primal stress-release response found in nature, helping you discharge tension and reset your nervous system. This full-body movement is a powerful way to let go of mental and physical stress, leaving you feeling lighter and more present.
