After seeing the 611 in Petersburg yesterday, I decided to go to Collier Yard and railfan there. Even though NS was slower than usual, it was still a good day. So here are the trains in order: Train #1: A southbound CSX coal train speeds by Petersburg, VA with a YN2 AC4400CW in the lead. Cool K5LA! Also we heard that N&W 611 stalled on the Petersburg wye because of an over-greased axle so they had to put sand on the tracks to get it going again. 1. AC4400CW #33 2. AC4400CW #580 Train #2: The northbound Amtrak Palmetto with a P40DC leader. After the CSX coal train went by, we heard that 611 was passing under I-95, and soon it cleared the signal at Crater. We wondered if Amtrak P090 and N&W 611 would get in an over under meet. Obviously that didn't happen. 1. P40DC #816 Train #3: N&W 611 heads west by Collier. I soon saw smoke and yelled "Here it comes!" Sure enough, in no time, the J Class heads under Vaughan Road on its way back to Lynchburg! 1. N&W J Class #611 Train #4: CSX Q141, the southbound juice train, speeds by Petersburg, VA with a Tier 4 leader. Plus I did some Alan Smith acting at the end. 1. ET44AH #3343 2. AC4400CW #125 Train #5: CSX Q031 speeds by Collier on its way to Jacksonville with 2 older GEVOs sandwiching an AC44. Interestingly, the 2 Boxcar Logo GEVOs were only 5 numbers apart. 1. ES44AH #3215 2. AC4400CW #140 3. ES44AH #3210 Train #6: Amtrak P091, the southbound Silver Star, heads south through Petersburg. By now, the others guys left to get some Chinese food for dinner. Only me, Class J Video Productions, and 2 other guys were left. 1. P42DC #202 Train #7: The southbound Amtrak Auto Train speeds by Petersburg, VA. Man, they do need to fix the rails there. The bouncing problem still hasn't gone away. 1. P40DC #815 2. P40DC #831 Train #8: A southbound CSX grain train rolls by with a C40-8W leader and 2 AC4400CWs. 1. C40-8W #7729 2. AC4400CW #471 3. AC4400CW #37 Train #9: CSX Q136 with doublestacks heads south with 2 ES40DCs. Good thing the leader wasn't 2 numbers down or I would have caught Dave from ROHV leading again. And for the second loco, it was actually in a grade crossing accident some years ago and now has a different front door. I remember when Houston Railfan Productions caught 5224 leading 3 years ago. 1. ES40DC #5267 2. ES40DC #5224 Train #10: My only regular NS of the day. NS V07 passes by with an SD70ACe leader and a UP GEVO trailing. It's been ages since I last saw V07! 1. NS SD70ACe #1151 2. UP ES44AC #5343 Train #11: My last train of the day is northbound CSX mixed freight Q300 with a K5LA GEVO leader. When I first heard the K5LA, I figured it was an AC6000CW or later AC4400CW leading. Of course, I was fooled. :3 1. ES40DC #5311 2. ES44AH #949
