originally recorded on 6-28-21 Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a General Signals Type 1 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights. Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a Safetran mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights. After catching the HOG, we went and got some lunch, then went around Cordele documenting the remaining HOG crossings and the NS crossings in town, before we decided to start working on getting the remaining crossings on the CSX Fitzgerald Subdivision documented. We decided to set-up here as it still retained a 1st Generation Safetran mechanical bell, and after about an hour of waiting, this southbound CSX mixed freight came through with an ET44AH leading an ES44AH. This crossing is a pretty nice one, featuring a mid-70s SCL install. It appears that this crossing was mostly original until the late-90s, when the bell on the far signal (which might've been the original 1st Gen Safetran that signal would've had?) was replaced with the current GS Type 1. The crossing seems to have been been left alone for the next decade or so, when in the late 2000s/early 2010s, CSX replaced both of the original Safetran gate mechanisms here with the current Safetran S-60s, along with upgrading the lights around this time to the current Safetran 12x24 inch lights (though IDK if they were originally incandescent and got LEDs later, or if they were LED when they were installed). Either way though, since then, no major changes have occured here, thankfully. Obviously the best thing about this crossing is the bells, which is certainly a rather nice combo. The 1st Gen Safetran here also still sounds rather nice and healthy, which is great to see. Hopefully it and the GS Type 1 on the far side remain here for years to come as well, but either way, I'm glad to have been able to recorded this crossing. One of the rear LEDs on the far signal has since fallen into the lens, though.
