Album: BBC Sessions Released: 17 November 1997 Album: The Complete BBC Sessions Released: September 2016 Recorded: March & June 1969, 1 April 1971, London, England, UK Genre: Hard rock heavy metal blues rock Label: Atlantic Producer: Jimmy Page Compiler: Jimmy Page Bootleg Info Album: Led Zeppelin The Lost Sessions: BBC Broadcast 1969 Release: 2020 Label: Iconography I am looking to complete "Session I" in the near future from the March 3, 1969 session. This was recorded after Led Zeppelin's first US tour and right before the second Scandinavian tour. My version was not meant to be a note for note cover. It's more of an inspirational improv with my own feel. However, I did memorize a lot of parts on this particular recording with a lot of BONZO like styles for a full authentic experience. I am playing along to a 2020 bootleg called "Led Zeppelin The Lost Sessions: BBC Broadcast 1969". The mix sounds just as good as the BBC releases. However, I've noticed on the bootleg it says that "Session I" was recorded on May 3, 1969 for "John Peel's Top Gear" which I think is incorrect. I noticed these bootlegs have discrepancies with dates, venues, and song titles compared to the official releases like "BBC Sessions" and "The Complete BBC Sessions". After the release of "Led Zeppelin" January 12, 1969 US / March 31, 1969 UK, they have already completed 4 tours in the US, and 4 tours in the UK sometime in 1969. March 1969 was a busy schedule of touring, TV appearances, BBC sessions, club dates, and recording a segment for a short film called the Supershow. Producer Bernie Andrews says "They were very loud, but very good." (in regards to Led Zeppelin's debut @ the BBC). Supposedly some of the photos taken on or inside the "BBC Sessions" and "The Complete BBC Sessions" album was possibly during the 1st BBC Session of Bonham with his new Ludwig Thermogloss kit! It sounds like just one floor tom with his tom tom and maybe just 2 cymbals (ride, crash) can be heard during these early '69 recordings. If I am not mistaken I think the 2nd floor tom came in July '69. My favorite era of Plant's vocals was late 60's. His GOLDEN SCREAMS in '68 and '69 are absolutely incredible. I've been listening to '69 bootlegs lately like live at the Fillmore West on January 11, 1969 and his singing is outrageous. To do that every night was amazing and it was Robert Plant at his climax before his voice changed from illness's, vocal operations, and just getting warped from touring a couple years later. "Dazed and Confused" was the last song I had to record to close Led Zeppelin's "Session I" performance at the BBC. This early live version is very reminisce to the studio version (the fills are not exact or in ordered sequence of course) before Zeppelin started to morph this song into a BEAST. Later years this song played live would be 30 min long at times with a slew of medleys. This was probably shortened to fit the BBC session standards. I recorded it on New Year's Day 2026. This is the first live performance of "Dazed and Confused" I've done on the channel after 22 takes (after the sound check and rehearsing)! I tried memorizing a lot of signature BONZO parts. Of course never perfect, but I was quite pleased with this take! A lot of people probably waking up DAZED AND CONFUSED TODAY. On to "Session II" eventually. Happy New Year and enjoy!
