Congress recently passed the Source Code Harmonization and Reuse of Information Technology (SHARE IT) Act. This law promotes the reuse of custom developed software (by feds AND contractors) through a public inventory of federal source code repositories, with narrow exemptions for national security and individual privacy. Since passage, The Open Source Program Office (OSPO) at CMS.gov has been focused on implementation, building open source on GitHub to enable other agencies to customize, contribute, and reuse our stack. They’ll demo the two forms at the heart of their SHARE IT stack—one to generate repository-level metadata, and one to generate agency-wide indexes—both utilizing components from form.io, and powered by modular static web technologies. They’ll then share lessons learned, and open up a Q&A about the virtues of an open source approach to reducing the burden and costs of implementing legislation on a national scale. - This video is part of FormFest 2025—a virtual event showcasing governments working to make services accessible to everyone through online forms.
