The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Tuesday raised concerns about non-tribal roadside hawkers operating at Iewduh Market without the necessary trading license from the council. Following an inspection of Iewduh Market, conducted alongside Grace Mary Kharpuri, the Executive Member in charge of the Market, and other council officials, Pyniaid Sing Syiem, the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of KHADC, addressed reporters stating that verifying the background of these roadside hawkers was a challenge for the council. Syiem emphasised that obtaining a trading license from the council was obligatory for these hawkers. He also made it clear that it would not be easy to get the trading license due to its stringent procedures. The CEM also revealed that the council's strategy to enhance safety at Iewduh Market encompassed the installation of CCTV cameras and streetlights. These measures were aimed at ensuring the security and well-being of visitors to the market. Additionally, he shared the council's intentions to implement initiatives to uphold the cleanliness of Iewduh Market.
