So it's a preventive action and not a punitive one. Tanks moving through street STORYLINE: Israeli soldiers went door-to-door in Nablus' Old City for the second day on Saturday, taking over houses in a city the Israeli government described as "the main factory of suicide bombings". Witnesses said several people were arrested Saturday in addition to the 50 rounded up on Friday. Witnesses said two Palestinian gunmen were killed in exchanges of fire on Friday. Armed with small hammers and metal crowbars Israeli soldiers searched the city's narrow alleys, which were surrounded by dozens of Israeli tanks and military vehicles. The Palestinian suspects were handcuffed, blindfolded and placed into empty store-rooms, before being taken away on army buses. The stepped up Israeli military actions follow a series of recent Palestinian attacks against Israel, including a bombing at Jerusalem's Hebrew University that killed five Americans and two Israelis on Wednesday. Israeli government spokesperson, Daniel Shek, said the military operation in Nablus is a preventive one that had already borne fruit, namely the destruction of three buildings the Israeli's claim were being used to make explosives. Nablus, the largest West Bank city with about 200-thousand people, has been under an Israeli military curfew for most of the past six weeks, along with other Palestinian towns.
