Here are three instrumentals written by Billy Strange for Lloyd Thaxton's 1964 dance album for teens titled Lloyd Thaxton Presents. As the album jacket said, it was touting dance fads like the Watusi, Swim and Slauson. Besides having covers of popular songs at the time, like "A Hard Day's Night," "Chug A Lug," "Doo Wah Diddy Diddy," and "My Boy Lollipop," there were several songs written by guitarist/arranger Billy Strange, as well as his arrangement of "House Of The Rising Sun Ska." He also wrote three songs that had vocals by The Flowers (The Blossoms). Billy's instrumental contributions were "Slow Slauson," "Doin' The Shuk" and "La Ska La Bamba." Recorded during two sessions held September 8 and 9, 1964, the album's twelve songs featured the instrumentalization by some of Hollywood's best players. The second afternoon session ran into a half-hour overtime. Seven of the musicians worked both sessions with Billy, while Frank Capp and Emil Radocchia were each on one session handling several percussion instruments. On both sessions Billy and Bill Pitman were on guitars with Hal Blaine on drums and Larry Knechtel on bass. Anthony Terran and Roy Caton were on brass instruments with Steve Douglas on sax. Doubling as pianist and organ player was Leon Russell.
