Enjoying my last moments in Vermont. Stayed at Little Rock Pond Shelter where a bunch of us swam to the other side, 3 of us named Abby. Some hiker, Jonah, found a hollow log and made a torch contraption before we got dumped on with rain and hail. Crossed many footbridges and met Long Trail hikers with only 500 miles left until Katahdin. Spent the morning climbing to the top of Mount Killington, crossing off another New England 4k. Such breathtaking views on a blue sky day. Made our way down the steep mountain and quickly crossed 1700 miles before reaching the highway to go into the town of Rutland, VT. Unfortunately but fortunately, we finally separated from a group member. The Gully Girls caught a hitch from someone from my home state and brought us into town. We grabbed a bite to eat and lost Sunflower. Walked through a farmers market and stopped by the famous Yellow Deli and did laundry and showered. Resupplied in town in our awesome loaner clothes and scarfed down sushi before running to catch the bus back to trail. Had little motivation to hike knowing the Gully Girls were temporarily splitting up. Spent $6 at a campground, tentsite D, and enjoyed our squished Subway sandwiches before getting lost in the darkness. Was a sad morning when Splash and I separated for the first time in 1650 miles so she can attend a wedding. I continued on solo for the first time since I reached Amicalola, Georgia. Even though I never found myself to be alone with other hikers leap frogging. The Lookout shelter was super cool and I made new friends during this stretch. Woke up in Trail Angel Linda's backyard and continued on. Got poured on for a few miles but I was having the best time singing out loud to myself. I crossed my first state by myself but met another girl shortly after named MOSS! Drank the most disgusting iced coffee in the town of Dartmouth but saw Daytona in the back seat of a car at a red light, whom I haven't seen since Neels Gap during my first week on trail. His shuttle driver came back for me and brought me to the Adventure Tour Hostel. Pigged out on the Dartmouth College cafeteria and drank beer back at the hostel. Made my way back to trail with Sunflower and entered into "The Sunflower Era". Little did I know that I would make another great friend all the way to the end. Hiked up to Smarts Mountain and cruised the green, mountainous trail all the way to the best trail magic. TACOS! When it rains, it pours tacos!
