The sea glitters, the gulls wheel overhead, and the wind carries the unmistakable scent of salt and sunscreen. It’s a town known for energy and adventure, but on foot, Newquay reveals its gentler, more scenic side. 🕰️ Highlights, History & Local Lore The walk begins at Porth Island (Trevelgue Head), a dramatic headland once home to ancient settlers. Archaeological digs have revealed Iron Age ramparts and roundhouses here—proof that even 2,000 years ago, people knew a good sea view when they saw one. Today, it’s a peaceful, slightly blustery place where crashing waves echo through the blowhole and seabirds skim the cliffs. From here, the walk hugs the coastline, threading past quiet coves and wide, surfer-packed beaches like Lusty Glaze and Tolcarne. These are some of Newquay’s most photogenic spots, framed by steep cliffs and wildflowers, and often drenched in golden light. Above the beaches, the South West Coast Path winds its way along grassy headlands and hidden benches—perfect for sea-watching or snack breaks.
