This insightful webinar, brought to you in partnership between the IWCS Cable & Connectivity Industry Forum and Huber Advanced Materials delves into the development and testing of low smoke PVC and LSZH wire & cable compounds using cone calorimetry. The study uncovers significant differences in heat release rates (HRR) despite similar Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) values, especially between PVC and LSZH materials. We also examine the effectiveness of various flame-retardant additives, their impact on smoke generation, and discuss the limitations of LOI as a predictor of flame spread. About the presenter: Thomas Schelling is the Technology Manager for Wire & Cable for the Americas at Huber Advanced Materials, specializing in non-halogen flame retardant additive technologies. Before joining Huber in 2022, he spent over two decades at Teknor Apex in various roles, including R&D for wire and cable applications. He holds an MS in Plastics Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park.
