Please visit a medical professional for evaluation, diagnosis and treatment. Please work with a nutritional profession to develop individualized nutrition strategies. Please work with a fitness professional to learn proper exercise technique and to develop a proper training program. Never perform an exercise that elicits or intensifies symptoms. If an exercise elicits or intensifies symptoms, stop immediately and use a viable substitute. Always perform all exercises through a symptom free range of motion. Begin your training at your current health, fitness and strength levels. Increase intensity in small gradual calculated increments. Please use nutritional strategies that are designed to work for your individual needs. Metabolic syndrome is an accumulation of several disorders, which together raise the risk of an individual developing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, insulin resistance, diabetes mellitus and vascular and neurological complications such as a cerebrovascular accident. Metabolic syndrome has serious implications on an individual’s health. Metabolic Syndrome is a key component to unhealthy aging in most developed countries. Through implementation of proper strategies the progression of Metabolic Syndrome can be halted and potentially reversed. In most cases, Metabolic Syndrome is fixable through healthy lifestyle changes. In medical terminology, a syndrome is a constellation of symptoms, findings and disorders that tend to occur together. The underlying causes of metabolic syndrome are extra weight, obesity, lack of physical activity and genetics. Metabolic Syndrome is a buildup of adipose tissue and tissue dysfunction that leads to insulin resistance and cardiovascular conditions. Extra body fat is the primary cause of Metabolic Syndrome. The distribution of body fat is extremely important. Body fat can be visceral or subcutaneous. Subcutaneous fat is located under the skin. Visceral fat is located around the internal organs. Both types are known to play a role in the development of metabolic syndrome. But visceral fat may contribute to metabolic syndrome more strongly than subcutaneous fat. The generally recognized physiological components of Metabolic syndrome are: 1) Large amount of adipose tissue (Fat) around the waist. 2) Insulin Resistance and Hyperglycemia – Loss of cellular sensitivity to insulin leads to numerous unhealthy factors. Including diabetes or pre-diabetic state characterized by poor serum glucose control. Lab test results show elevated fasting glucose level. 3) Hypertension (High Blood Pressure). Elevated blood pressure values. 4) Derangement in serum triglycerides (fat) and HDL/LDL (cholesterol levels). Lab Tests show elevated triglycerides levels and reduced high-density lipoprotein levels. People with Metabolic Syndrome are more likely to suffer from stroke, cardiovascular disease and heart attack, to develop heart failure, to develop kidney failure and to suffer from depression, loss of independence and premature death. Treatment Modifiable factors such as diet and exercise should be emphasized in metabolic syndrome. Improve body fat composition. Reduce body fat percentage. Decrease waist size. Nutrition: Formulate an individualized nutrition plan that fits your needs and goals. Improve your gut health. Utilize anti-inflammatory nutritional strategies. Sleep habits are important in metabolic syndrome because sleep apnea and sleep deprivation can contribute to the development of metabolic syndrome.
