Ride along one of Europe’s most breathtaking railways with this full-length driver’s view from Čapljina to Sarajevo in the country of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Filmed from the front of the train with permission from the railway operator, the video follows the Neretva Valley as the line climbs from the sun-drenched Mediterranean foothills in Čapljina near the Adriatic coast up through the clouds as it winds through dramatic gorges and into the mountainous heart of Bosnia, ending in the historic capital city of Sarajevo. 🛤️ About the Čapljina–Sarajevo Railway: This line is often described as the gateway between inland Bosnia and the Adriatic Sea. Opened in the mid-20th century as part of the Sarajevo–Ploče route, it was designed to provide Bosnia and Herzegovina with a vital outlet to the coast. The railway traces the turquoise Neretva River for much of its journey, crossing dozens of bridges and passing through long mountain tunnels through territory that is very similar to what you would find in the European Alps. After being extensively rebuilt in the aftermath of the Bosnian War, along with more recent damage from mudslides in 2024, it continues to provide a vital link through the heart of the country.
