In December 2020, we fulfilled a life-long ambition to discover, bake, restore, play and mix three multi-track tapes recorded by 10cc at their legendary Strawberry Studios in Stockport. Detailed footage of our baking and studio adventures can be seen in our film, 'The Great Stockport Bake-off'. The results were stunning. You can watch it here at: • 10cc: The Great Stockport Bake-off - unear... The tapes we successfully restored were: Hotlegs (pre-10cc) - 'You Didn't Like It Because You Didn't Think of It' - 2-track 1/4-inch, 15ips tape (backing tracks and backing vocals) Written and performed by Lol Creme, Kevin Godley and Eric Stewart, with (we think) Pam Gilborne on hand claps. 10cc - TV advert for Revlon 'Natural Wonder' mascara (3rd July 1976) - 2-inch 24-track tape, 15ips 10cc - 'Survivor' and 'Tomorrow's World Today' (DEcember 1980) - 2-inch 24-track tape, 15ips The multitrack tapes were successfully captured on an analogue 24-channel desk and digitised in Pro Tools. This 1/4-inch Hotlegs tape was re-baked in February 2021 and captured in stereo from our own Revox PR99 machine to an iMac running Logic Pro X. What you hear is exactly what came off the tape. These tracks would have been bounced to another machine at Strawberry and Kevin Godley's lead vocals added. We'll be forever grateful to Peter Wadsworth at the Strawberry Archive for allowing us to bake and bring these tapes back to life! Thanks also to Paul McNulty, our partner in the 10cc Consequences Podcast, 10cc author Liam Newton, Graham Gouldman archivist David Jarvis and film maker Rob Salmon of Orfactor Productions.
