The term Ama refers to undigested food residue present in the body which cannot be utilised by the body in any form, it may stay in the body for longer amount of time. This can be macromolecule or intermediate molecule present in the alimentary canal or in the intravascular compartment or in the interstitial compartment or in the intracellular compartment or in any two or in any three or in all four compartments. More than 95% of the cases, Ama is the causative factor for the manifestation of most of the diseases occurring due to vitiation of Dosha in the body. Hence, the concept of Ama, its interpretation plays a major key in the decoding of the pathogenesis of these diseases.
