4K Visiting Trier - Traben-Trarbach - Germany 🇩🇪

Departing Luxembourg we turn south to River Mosel (Moselle). Our first stop on a very hot Sunday was the old city of Trier. With claim to being the oldest city in Germany (2400 years old) Trier was for about 400 years an important city of the Roman Empire. Many great buildings remain from that period foremost of which is the Porta Negra (Black Gate). In medieval times the city was the seat of a powerful Prince-Bishop who was also one of seven Electors who would choose the Holy Roman Emperor. The great churches and palaces of the city reflect that importance. Our base for the next three nights was the town of Traben-Trarbach sitting on either side of the Mosel river.
