(Please note: The keyword I mentioned in this video doesn't work on Youtube, only on Facebook!) Fresh, fun spring DIY! In this video I’m making a bright carrot-and-rick-rack pillow cover using two reusable silkscreen transfers: Carrot Patterns and Groovy Borders (hello, vintage rick rack vibes!). It’s a quick, beginner-friendly fabric ink project that looks boutique-level but is totally doable at home. What we’re making A 17.5" x 17.5" pillow cover with a hidden zipper, decorated with carrots in the center, a “grass” rick rack border at the bottom, and a playful rick rack “sky” on top. I used fabric inks in Meadow (green), Papaya (orange), Couture Coral, and Couture Teal for a cheery, spring-forward palette. Why you’ll love it Permanent on fabric: Ink your design, let it dry, then heat set and toss it in the wash—easy peasy. No fuzzing needed with ink: The transfers are silkscreen, so the ink glides through like butter. Reusable designs: Make matching tea towels, aprons, shirts, curtains, signs, and more. Use them on fabric, chalkboards, wood, and cutouts. Materials I used Pillow cover (2-pack), 17.5" x 17.5" with hidden zipper 18" x 18" pillow insert (I love feather inserts for that perfect “chop”) Transfers: Carrot Patterns + Groovy Borders (rick rack) Fabric ink: Meadow, Papaya, Couture Coral, Couture Teal Squeegee/spreaders Heat press or iron (to heat set) Water and mild soap for cleanup How to make it (quick guide) 1) Arrange: Center the carrot transfer, add rick rack along the bottom for “grass,” and another border up top for a “sky.” 2) Ink: Smooth ink over the silkscreen (no heavy pressure needed). Meadow for greenery, Papaya/Couture Coral for carrot bodies, Teal for the top rick rack, Green for the grassy rick rack. 3) Reveal: Lift the transfers to reveal those crisp details. 4) Dry and heat set: Let the ink dry completely, then heat set per your ink’s instructions so it’s machine washable. 5) Finish: Pop in an 18" insert for a full, high-end look. Tips and tricks Ink dries slower than paste—take your time. Don’t press too hard; think “butter toast.” Protect your surface and avoid smudges by keeping inky fingers off the fabric. Cleaning transfers: Rinse with water (a little mild soap if needed). Staining is normal—if you can see through the mesh, it’s clean. Dry sticky side up so they get tacky again. Color ideas: Try classic farmhouse black/white/gray, or go bold and springy like I did. Sizing note Cover: 17.5" x 17.5" Insert: 18" x 18" for a plush, tailored fit As of filming, Carrot Patterns and Groovy Borders are fan favorites and running low—snag them while you can if you love that retro rick rack look!
