I went exploring a big piece of land that had been logged last year to see what was out there. Being New England so much of the land was colonial settled and changed. I walked for a couple hours and followed some very long stone walls and could now see that most of this must have been livestock pasture. The majority of these farms were abandoned in the early 1800s and have been deserted since. I was hoping to spot a cellar hole, cart path or wagon trail but no luck. I did at the end of my hike get into an area with lots of stacked rocks. you could see the work that had been done piling all these filed stones in attempt to clear and improve the land. Its all about reading the landscape history out here and sometimes after they cut the forest it gives you more visibility.
