Urdhva Mukha Paschimattanasana explored in depth with Ethan Ward (Authorized Level II Ashtanga Yoga teacher) | Posted: May 2020 Alright yogis! In this video we'll take a close look at Urdhva Mukha Paschimattanasana and specifically learning how to roll up for the vinyasa that leads into this asana. It's a single breath and an easy one to overlook with the end of the Primary Series in sight, but mastering this form is a very rewarding part of the process of refining the Ashtanga Yoga sequence. So here in this guide, I'll cover the physical, energetic and anatomical aspects that need to be understood through dedicated practice, the concept of bandha & briefly touch on how that works to benefit the movement into this asana, the vinyasa count in Sanskrit as specified to define each position that needs to be touched on, a few of the many anatomical forms that need to be brought together to go through this dynamic movement fluidly and finally what to do if you are working on this posture and are currently unable to complete the movement - this is important as there are many ways to approach the learning process here and being clear on how-to and how-not-to modify the vinyasa will determine your path to progressing towards proficiency. This video is one that I knew I'd make as I've often experienced it to be overlooked and undermined across the world, but it's one of my first home yoga videos and THE first asana tutorial video I'm creating for public viewing. Feel free to offer your feedback as I continue to work on these basic film making abilities. You're welcome to follow the process by hitting the subscribe button just below the video. I'll be happy to read & respond to any comments or questions you might have on this! Oh, and one last thing! Please remember that this asana - at least in the Ashtanga tradition - is called Urdhva Mukha Paschimattanasana, not Urdhva Mukha Paschimottanasana. Haha, Ooookay! Thank you yogis!!!
