Although it is impossible to isolate it completely, this advanced shoulder bridge variation does heavily bias the adductor magnus. It also gives the hamstring muscles an excellent challenge as well. The adductor magnus bridge can be performed with the feet elevated on a fixed, solid object to being with, but the real heart of the exercise is when a Swiss Ball is used instead. This provides a fantastic proprioceptive and core stability challenge, as well as giving the opportunity for dynamic leg movements as a serious progression. With higher level exercises such as this, it is imperative that the participant has no acute symptoms or spinal pathology present. If rehabilitating a hamstring injury (or injury anywhere in the posterior chain), this would be brought in a good way through the rehab programme. As always, if you have any apprehension about performing this exercise, consult with a trusted medical professional or exercise practitioner first.
