These tips are for the brave souls that enjoy the winter elements. You can always stay inside and run on a treadmill, or run on an indoor track, but that's no fun. Try the snow and ice. It's nice. Here are my top four tips for running in the winter. 1. Wear clothes in layers. Have the first layer be a tech shirt so it wicks away the sweat from your body. 2. Wear a hat and some gloves. A lot of heat escapes from your head. Keep yourself warm with a hat. Gloves keep those extremities warm. 3. Pick your running route wisely. Try to find some good footing to run on, usually the road. Also, try to avoid strong winds. If it is real windy, have someone take you in a car into the wind and drop you off. Then you can run with the wind back home. 4. Run with happy feet! This means run with a shorter stride. You have to be careful of your footing when you run around snow and ice. You might not be able to go very fast this way, but safety is the number one concern.
