Get ready for a frantic few minutes at the start, and don't be afraid to restart if you have bad luck. You start with a huge base that's basically split in two, around a harbor. You have all the buildings you'll ever need, try not to lose any or you might be left crippled. Your Fortresses at the tips of the peninsulas will be the focus of your defenses by sea, while the Fort and Log Cabins at the south will protect from land attacks once you've garrisoned them. The coastal Log Cabins won't see much action, so you can safely empty them and move the Fusiliers elsewere. You also have 2 convoys escorting Cannons. These can help replace the Cannons you lose in your base, but their bad pathing will require frequent attention and you will inevitably lose some to enemy attacks, even with help of escorts. You will be attacked by sea by the French (blue). They have a huge navy, and will attack immediately with full force. They also have a small base in the north, from which they will send Ferries with troops to attack your Fortresses. They may also attempt to build additional warships. You have to kill every single unit of theirs to win. By land, you will be attacked by multiple natives in waves. They include Pikemen, Archers, Tomahawks, and Shooters. They can be mostly neutralized by garrisoning your southern defenses, but are a threat to units outside of your base. They also have a Fort that will grant you 50000 coal and iron when it is captured or destroyed. Keep in mind that destroying it without storming it first will kill all your ungarrisoned Peasants, so storming it is preferable (point-blank Dragoons are useful here). As soon as the gameplay starts, send your starting boats to engage the enemy fleet and immediately start making more. Without your boats to distract them, the enemy fleet will bombard your buildings and devastate your base surprisingly fast. Make lots of Peasants and set up your economy. You won't be able to upgrade your mines further, so fill them up as early as possible. Whenever you have time, bring the Cannons to your base. Don't fret if you lose some of them, as they are many more than you would ever need, plus they're not very effective ship killers. They are more likely to eat up your Coal and Iron. However, keeping some of the Cannons that start near your Fortress will have a long term effect when constantly firing on the enemy ships, provided they didn't get killed by friendly fire from your Fortresses early on. Boats can be effective ship killers, but they're vulnerable to cannonballs and you will lose many of them facing off against the enemy boats. Keeping a stream of them coming will keep the enemy busy and eventually get rid of enemy boats. Their point-blank fire is extremely strong, but closing in on groups of Caravels and Carracks is risky, since they have a fast rate of fire. Once you have thinned out their numbers, however, you can close in for the kill. The Frigates are basically helpless once your Boats have closed the distance. Just don't build too many once they stop taking losses, as they become increasingly more expensive and you may end up running out of Gold. After the enemy fleet is dealt with, you can go on the offensive. Bring your Cannons to the northern Fortress, upgrade their range, and begin bombarding their Fort near the tip. Build a ship to bombard from water as well, as the Cannons won't reach any other building farther away. I picked a Caravel due to the relatively high accuracy and rate of fire, but its short range makes the enemy Fort easily capable of destroying it if it's still standing. The AI will be quick to repair any buildings that are set on fire. Bring your surviving boats close to shore to shoot at anyone approaching a burning building. They are resistant to building fire, so they have good survivability. Once the enemy Fort is gone, you're free to bring down the enemy base building by building. A tip against resilient buildings that get repaired quickly is to damage buildings that are distant from eachother, that way the Peasants will waste time moving from one place to another. With the buildings gone, you have to get rid of every single blue unit as well, so keep your eyes peeled if you don't want to waste time before you are granted the win.
