Andania and Clun Castle join Tangmere, two 37s and Class 90s & a missing train: Carlisle 27 September 25 Apparently this weekend's Belmond Britannic Explorer to the Lakes was failed at Fenny Stratford (Bletchley) with yet more door issues! But it didn't interrupt the day of charters and classic locos at Carlisle! A very early start for me to see D213 Andania take the Oban Bucket charter to the eponymous Scottish town. Then what seemed a long wait before the first daylight freights, Plenty of 90s and 88s on Intermodals and a pair of 68s on a nuclear flask. Then the charters. First Tangmere with the Lune Rivers Trust from Lancaster - out over Shap and return via Settle. Tangmere looked sick with steam eminating from underneath as she entered Carlisle. Also odd sounding chuffs! I heard about wheel flats but was I seeing the cause or the effect. All seemed ok when she left Carlisle. The Cumbrian Mountaineer by Vintage Trains arrived around an hour late. The changeover from Class 37 to Clun Castle at Carnforth was seriously delayed due to a signalling issue there. It was interesting to compare the Loram Class 37 with the Vintage Trains Chocolate and Cream carriages. An interesting contrast. Its departure was a bit chaotic as it waited quite a while to ge the signal to head for the Settle Carlisle line. Supposedly awaiting a path - but few trains crossed its path - had no-one told the signallers she was ready to leave. Clun Castle was a real star - looking great in the sun!
