Monsal Dale is a stunning valley located in the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire, England. The dale is situated near the village of Monsal Head, approximately 5 miles northwest of Bakewell and 12 miles southeast of Buxton. Monsal Dale has been a popular destination since the Victorian era, celebrated for its natural beauty and scenic views. The Headstone Viaduct, a key feature of the dale, was constructed in 1863 by the Midland Railway as part of the Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands Junction Railway. An iconic structure with five arches, the viaduct spans the River Wye in Monsal Dale. It was initially controversial, criticized by John Ruskin for disturbing the natural landscape, but is now considered an integral part of the dale's charm. A beautiful walk!
