How do you train for a Double Everesting run? (Or even a single Everesting?) Clif notes version? It's a lot of f***ing uphill. Longer version? It's a lot of slow (zone 2 heart rate) endurance training (and some strength and mobility work, but I will touch on that in a later video.) Strength Training for Double Everesting • Strength Training for Double Everesting Everesting FAQs • Everesting FAQs: Everything to Know About ... A 6-Hour Race | The Stories Ultra in Colorado Springs • 6 Hour Race | Stories Ultra in Colorado Sp... In the summer of 2023, I'll attempt to hike up a hill, come down, and repeat over and over in a single, non-stop activity until I accumulate elevation gain equal to the height of two Mt. Everests. That's 58,058 feet in vertical or like walking up the Empire State Building 46 times in a row. It will likely take me 50 or more hours straight to complete. It's like an ultramarathon or sky running event but exclusively uphill. Training for the Everesting challenge (run version) includes, for me, the following workouts: EASY INCLINE DAYS Two to three days of 45 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes on the incline treadmill (20%+ incline) or on the stairclimber. I believe in the power of specificity, so I want to train on severe inclines as the Double Everesting will take place on a hill with an average of 28% incline. LONG INCLINE DAY Like a long run found in any marathon or ultramarathong training program, but again on mostly inline -- so the treadmill or stairmaster. I'll occasionally throw in an actual long run as well on a trail somewhere, but I want to know what my body feels like when it has to go at a steep incline for hours at a time. TRAIL RUN DAY I need to incorporate trail running at least once a week (if not more) for two reasons: 1. I need practice using trekking poles as I'll be using them on the Double Everesting attempt. 2. I need training on uneven ground to get my balancing muscles and tiny foot muscles used to it. The Double Everesting is on a ski hill in Telluride, Colorado, and it's going to be uneven, lumpy, rocky in places. STRENGTH TRAINING I don't discuss strength training for the Everesting challenge in this video (you can see my video on that here: • Strength Training for Double Everesting ). But this is an integral part of my program as it will give me leg strength to power up a hill and will give me a better shot at avoiding injury. www.mid-lifechallenge.com IG: @mid_lifechallenge Everesting was started by a group of Australian cyclists called Hells 500. Their idea was simple and brutal. Pick a hill, climb it, return to the bottom and repeat the whole thing over and over until you gain the elevation equal to the height of the tallest mountain on the planet. Thousands of cyclists and hundreds of runners have done a single Everesting. But to date, only 12 people have completed a Double Everesting, or gaining 58,058 feet in elevation in one single activity. I truly don't know if I can do this, and that's kind of the point. Follow along to see how I train (running, stairclimber, etc.), how I eat and how I deal with the ups and downs of tackling a daunting challenge. @Hells500 @everestingchallenge #everesting #hells500 #ultrarunning #ultramarathon #running #ultrarunner #skyrunning #skyrunner
