In today’s class, we explore gentle stretches designed to relieve neck, shoulder and upper back tension. Be mindful of your breath throughout this practice. Use the breath to deepen the stretch and to help release tension. If you experience a great deal of tension in the upper body, I recommend taking a warm bath and/or having an Epsom salt bath. The magnesium from Epsom salt can help you get some relief from muscular tension. You can even try a scented one. I use lavender as it helps promote deep relaxation. Drink plenty of water throughout your day to keep your spine hydrated. Engage in gentle movements whenever you can. This is especially important if you find yourself in one position for far too long. Perhaps even give yourself an upper back massage, getting into the trapezius muscles, shoulder blades, chest, neck, the base of the skull, etc. I invite you to return to this class often! These stretches are fantastic for relieving upper back, neck and shoulder tension, stiffness and discomfort.
