Chasing The N&W 611 and An ATSF Warbonnet Across NC & Virginia 9/26/2018

Upon receiving word that the N&W 611 would make a midweek ferry move back to Roanoke for winterization Jake (NS2565) and I set out to chase it across NC and Virginia. We start our chase in Lexington where we see Amtrak 73 with both NCDOT 1755 and 1797 before finally catching 611 and starting our chase northward. After catching her at Jamestown we move over to Pomona Yard we the crew picked up new bulletins for the route over the N&W Main from Lynchburg to Roanoke. In addition to the bulletins, the crew made repairs to a broken wind deflector that 611 hit hanging off of one of P94’s scrap gons around Cox. After waiting on 134 with a GECX C40-8W and PRLX SD70MAC to go south 069 finally moved north. We then beat 069 to Reidsville getting bogged down behind pacers from there to Danville. Finally getting ahead of the pacers we catch 069 as it flies over the fill at Blairs VA, and then shooting up to Gretna at the site of the former station there. Next, we catch the 611 one last time on the Southern Main at Hurt before we move up and over to Villamont on the famed Blue Ridge Grade between Lynchburg and Roanoke. After a catching, an empty coal drag following the 611 we moved back over to the Southern at Chatham to give chase to NS 211 being lead by a rare Santa Fe painted C44-9W. After seeing 40N go south with a UP SD70M leader, 211 appeared and it was tally ho Southbound. We intercepted 211 twice at Shelton and Reidsville before ending our chase at Pomona Yard. After the 211 chase, NS 40N caught up southbound followed by NS 17M northbound with an Ex Conrail D8-40CW leading, and a former Santa Fe SD75M now owned by PRLX trailing.
