From 4-6 March 2024 the PILON Sexual and Gender Based Violence Working Group held an Implementation Workshop in Nadi, Fiji, for the Regional Guidelines for Prosecutors and Witness Support Officers to support Vulnerable Witnesses through the Prosecution of Sexual and Gender Based Violence Offences. Dr Amanda-Jane George is a Senior Lecturer in Law at CQUniversity, Australia. Her research expertise includes innovation and policy development, and she has a particular passion for research and advocacy regarding gender-based violence. Dr Amanda-Jane George’s presentation provides context to the issue of SGBV in the Pacific, discussing the prevalence of sexual violence and the barriers to reporting. The presentation then focuses on a trauma-informed prosecution practice and the rational for adopting it, as well as the neurobiological impacts of trauma on a victim of sexual violence. To view the Regional Guidelines and other supporting resources, please visit the SGBV digital library on the PILON website at pilonsec.org. For a copy of the presentation or more information about this webinar or the activities of the SGBV Working Group please email [email protected].
