In this video, we get started on our first big project of the year: a cabin extension! We start by cutting and debarking a tree near the cabin to use as lumber. Using homemade wedges and our new tool, a froe, we split an 8-foot section of that log. These will be attached directly to the cabin as the roof and floor supports. The following day, while Maëla watches over the maple syrup, Nick heads into the forest to find a dead cedar to cut. After struggling for a while to bring it down, he is finally able to cut 2 logs and carries them back to the sugar shack. Once there, we use the froe to split the logs into cedar shingles, which will be used on the roof of the cabin extension. Unfortunately, there is still too much snow and the ground is still too frozen to get started on the foundation. For business inquiries, please contact: [email protected]
