Welcome to our summer videos in Cornwall! We will be sharing with you some of the beautiful places from around this lovely English county. This video is a beautiful sunrise walk around the stunning town of St Ives in Cornwall, England. We begin our walk at Porthminster Beach, which is west of the harbour area and just below St Ives Train Station. With its golden sand, clear blue water, palm trees and amazing views across to The Harbour and Godrevy Lighthouse, Porthminster is a beautiful place to spend the day. Leaving the beach we head towards the picturesque street known as The Warren passing Pedn Olva Hotel, which is currently being completely refurbished. The hotel is on the site of the former Pedn Olva Engine House of Pedn Olva Copper Mine. The gently sloping narrow road of The Warren is lined by quaint cottages, many of which are Grade II listed buildings and as you reach the bottom you are rewarded with the beautiful picture postcard view across to The Harbour. Making our way along Pednolva Walk, passing more lovely cottages and holiday homes, we arrive at St Ives Lifeboat Station which sits at the start of West Pier and The Harbour. The first lifeboat was built in 1840 and the current station opened in 1994. Leaving the pier we head along The Wharf which follows the curve of The Harbour. This is a beautiful part of St Ives where the white washed and stone cottages and houses sit alongside the many lovely shops, cafes and restaurants including The Lifeboat Inn and The Sloop Inn, which is one of the oldest surviving inns in Cornwall. The Harbour area is very popular with visitors and can get very busy in the summer months (though not this early in the morning). Plenty of seating along the edge allows you to sit and take in the sights of this busy working harbour. At the far end is Smeatons Pier, which was built in the 18th century by John Smeaton. It was extended in the 1890's and a new 9 metre tall lighthouse was built. The original lighthouse marks where the pier used to end. We finish our walk on the pier looking out at the beautiful view across to Porthminster Beach. If you enjoyed our video please give us a like and hit the subscribe button.
