3 Diplo Tips for a Better Future | Gareth Weir | TEDxSeoul

In an age where everything and everyone is interconnected, isolation is no longer an option. He explores how curiosity, connection, and courage can help us become better leaders, neighbors, and citizens in a shared world. Through stories from diplomacy and life, he challenges us to listen loudly, build trust, and seek truth in an era defined by complexity and change. Born in Cameroon to British parents, Gareth and his brother were the only International kids in their childhood school. With parents as teachers they learned as much in school as they did exploring West Africa. This seeded his curiosity for learning about different cultures which led him to travel extensively and ultimately build a career in international diplomacy. He currently represents the UK as Deputy Ambassador at the British Embassy in Seoul. He is an experienced diplomat with a background in development, trade, investment, security, and climate having lived in multiple countries including Tanzania, Mozambique and Nepal. Before joining the Foreign Service he worked as an international management consultant leading projects across UK, US, Africa and Asia. Outside work, he is passionate about his family, sport and adventure. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
