Niviuk Open - Task 5 - Canceled After a long day, the day before, when some pilots made it back to Roldanillo by 11pm, everyone seemed a bit tired and put off, especially that the weather was not that promising. By the time we got the task and the times, the organizers found out that nobody was actually climbing in front so they paused the task before window open. We got a new task, shorter, just 51 km and everything seemed to go in the right direction… when the meet director suddenly announced that due to difficult weather he is canceling the task! Some cheered, some not and as I was already unpacked and ready to go I went for a nice flight. First surfing the jungles on the mountain side, then trying to hook a climb on the ridges before La Union. The west wind was already quite noticeable so my plan was to get the climb, enough a to tide and then enjoy a glide over the flats to La Victoria. Once crossing the river toward La Victoria, the sun came out and it started working. Birds appeared and with some work I could climb. The wind was south westerly here, it would have been easy to slide to Obando but I had no business there so I pushed against towards Zarzal. Everything was quiet in this direction and I was soon landed just around the goal field north of Zarzal. Quick bike to Zarzal (thank you Good Samaritan) and bus to Roldsnillo. I am getting home under 1h. As the weather looks on the forecast now, today was the “good bye Colombia” flight! Another superb experience I had. Only about 46 hours of flying in 13 flying days so it was not as much as last year but what I had was good quality and excellent training for future! For now, thank you Colombia and let some fiesta start!
