Once a quiet coastal village filled with coconut groves and family compounds, Legian began to transform in the late 20th century as more travellers discovered Bali’s surf, culture, and hospitality. Its wide beaches, relaxed atmosphere, and friendly local community made Legian especially popular with Australian tourists, many of whom still return year after year. Over time, small guesthouses grew into hotels, boutique shops, cafés, and the lively streets that visitors know today. In this walking tour, we explore the heart of Legian as evening approaches. We start our walk on Padma Utara Street, then turn left into Padma Street, a well-known road lined with shops and accommodation. From here we head straight into Sahadewa Street, which Aussie travellers usually call Garlic Lane. Next, we turn left onto Melasti Street and continue until we reach the intersection with Legian Main Road. We walk north along Legian Main Road, taking in the busy afternoon atmosphere, before turning back into Padma Street from its eastern end. We follow Padma Street all the way to its western end, where it meets Padma Beach. We finish this walk by strolling along the sand towards Legian Beach, watching the late-afternoon activities and the relaxed beach crowd. This area remains one of the most loved destinations for Australian visitors, thanks to its mix of surf culture, friendly locals, and casual holiday vibes.
