When people talk about gender equality today, it’s easy to assume that the problem has already been solved. Women can vote, attend school, and pursue careers, so the work must be done, right? In this talk, Ruhi challenges that assumption by exploring the invisible boundaries that still shape the lives of women and men today. Drawing from history, culture, media, and modern institutions, she shows how these borders continue to appear in subtle ways—from expectations placed on boys and girls growing up, to unequal opportunities in workplaces, politics, and the justice system. Through personal experience and historical context, Ruhi argues that progress does not mean the struggle is over. Instead, recognizing these invisible borders is the first step toward breaking them down. By questioning norms, challenging everyday sexism, and supporting more inclusive systems, each of us can help move society closer to real equality. Ruhi Yue is a passionate G10 student at Semiahmoo Secondary dedicated to driving change through activism, community engagement, and debate. She is the founder of The Sunflower Project, a youth-led nonprofit supporting survivors of human trafficking and a longtime volunteer for Our Learning House, an inclusive learning center for children with disabilities. Through bottle drives, fundraisers, and sales, she has raised over $10,000 in funds for both organizations. As a competitive debater who was received multiple prestigious awards, Ruhi uses her voice to spotlight issues that matter. She is honored to speak at this year's TEDX. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and cleaning her room because she hates spiders ?️ Come watch Ruhi and the other speakers as they share ideas worth sharing! This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
