God's Bounteous Grace/Ni'mah; A default state that changes when we change

Life’s Default State is one of Bounteous Grace What a beautiful perspective we gain on life when we realize that God’s bounteous grace — His Blessings, His Ni‘mah — is the default state of our existence! And what a deep sense of responsibility awakens when we recognize our collective role in causing this state of abundance to change — or even disappear. The Qur’an shows us that what God wills —yurīd— for us, He places for us on life’s path, leaving it to us, as agents of free will, to take or forsake it. The blessings before us are countless: His āyāt/signs; His hudā/guidance; His lightening of our burdens, His purifying us, His forgiveness, and our very ability to learn and grow through experience. Every breath we take is a Ni‘mah — a blessing. And when we reflect upon Ni‘mat Allāh we realize that even if we were to try counting every aspect of His bounteous blessing, we would never be able to enumerate them. “And if you (all) were to count the bounteous blessing of God, you could never enumerate them, indeed God is Most Forgiving and Merciful.” (Q.16:18) وَإِن تَعُدُّوا نِعْمَةَ اللَّهِ لَا تُحْصُوهَا إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ (النحل 18)
