For parts go to www.Importapart.com or email us at [email protected] Today we tear down a GOOD engine? Wait, Thats not normal. Normally we only tear down engines that have failed to see what has gone wrong, why its gone wrong, and perhaps what parts survived. IN THIS CASE, I have a high mileage 2JZ-GE VVTi engine from a 1999 Lexus SC300 I bought at the auction. This car had 415,000 miles and it ran GREAT! No really it ran very well. However, at its mileage, selling a used engine as good is not very profitable compared to the value of this engine in parts, so the decision has been made to dismantle it and sell it in pieces instead. So what does a 2JZ look like with 415,000 miles? Thats the purpose of this video. Lets check out how much wear and damage has occurred in 25 years and 415k miles. This engine is PROOF that proper maintenance is just as important as simple design as far as longevity is concerned. When both are combined you get the best results. Why am I doing this? I own and run Importapart, a full service auto dismantling business. Part of our model includes buying and tearing down blown up and bad engines. We salvage the good parts for resale and recycle the rest. We don't rebuild engines, merely supply parts to those who do. 00:00 Intro 02:49 Engine run video 06:24 Removing the coils and wires, zipping out the plugs to inspect 08:28 Intake plenum and wire harness removal 12:24 Removing the lower intake manifold and inspecting the intake ports 13:25 Timing cover and crank pulley removal 14:26 Inspecting the timing belt and removing it 16:06 Unbolting the cam gears, VVT intake 17:19 Peeling the valve covers off 17:41 First look inside the engine... not bad? 19:13 Crammin' the cam cramps loose 20:25 Inspecting the cams, journals and lifters 23:13 WATER PUMP ESCAPADE 25:40 Cracking the head bolts loose 26:31 Lifting the cylinder head, inspecting pistons, cylinder head, bores 27:52 SCIENCE 28:54 Unbolting the lower oil pan, TOO MUCH TOO MUCH! 31:03 FINALLY peeling the lower oil pan off.
