Sustainable Weigh Loss WITH Carbs: • Science Confirms It: Carbs DON’T Make You Fat 📹 Video Outline The idea that eating at night makes you gain weight stems from the fact it goes against our circadian rhythm, which is the 24-hour cycle that tells your body when to sleep, eat and wake. Nighttime is for resting, not eating. It doesn't actually matter! It's not when but what and how much. There is no hormonal magic going on. Theres a simple explanation why we think eating late at night is worse than the day equivalent... the reality is people who eat late eat more food. It's been studied extensively. One study found that people who ate between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. consumed roughly 500 more calories per day than those who limited their intake to daytime hours. Over time, the average nighttime eater gained 10 more pounds (4.5 kilograms). Tiredness has also been linked to increased food intake and a desire for high-calorie foods. There is also emotional eating that leads to poorer food choices at night. Lack of healthy foods available is a big factor too. Many studies suggest that night-workers tend to snack on unhealthy foods for convenience, as there may be a lack of healthy options available in the workplace at night. To sum that up for you, physiologically, calories don't count for more at night. There's no hormonal magic going on there. Its that when you eat at night you make worse choices, which means higher calorie intake for the day.
