On What’s Up this week, four news stories emerge. Firstly, from Benguerir, UM6P organised the International Conference on Metals (ICM 2026) through its Department of Materials Science and Nanotechnology (MSN), which convened over 140 participants from academia, industry, and the policymaking sector. The conference featured researchers and industrial stakeholders from Morocco, France, Germany, and the United States, including companies such as Renault Group Morocco, Maghreb Steel, and GROUPE SONASID, as well as representatives from metal and automotive federations. Scientific sessions concentrated on the future of low-carbon metallurgy, research–industry collaboration, and the alignment of public policies with industrial transformation requirements. Secondly, UM6P signed a cooperation agreement with Guinea’s National Service for External Scholarships (SNABE) to enhance academic mobility and facilitate the enrollment of Guinean students through structured scholarships and academic guidance. Third, UM6P Rabat campus organised a preparatory scientific meeting for the third edition of the international conference “From the Big Bang to Humanity,” which was orchestrated by the Science et Quête de Sens Center in Benguerir. This meeting assembled 38 participants, comprising students, researchers, and academic guests, and was chaired by Dr. John C. Mather (Nobel Laureate in Physics and senior scientist for the James Webb Space Telescope), Dr. Denis Alexander (specialist in molecular biology), and Dr. Michael Denton (expert in biochemistry and genetics). The discussion focused on issues related to cosmology, the emergence of life, and the intersection of astrophysics and biology. Finally, in Benguerir, the Chorale Turath, as part of UM6P’s Open Minds program, delivered a musical and poetic performance that celebrated Moroccan musical heritage. The production involved 55 performers—including students, researchers, and administrative staff—and presented a synthesis of al-Ala and Andalusian-Grenadian traditions under the guidance of professional artists. #UM6P #TimesofUM6P #GatheringMindsShapingFutures Social links Follow us on Linkedin: / times-of-um6p Follow us on Instagram: / timesofum6p
